Hamlet and Ophelia discussing Hamlet's mood swings. Ophelia attempts to make him feel better but he doesn't appreciate it, so she leaves.
Ophelia tells her friends of her rocky relationship with Hamlet. They encourage her to go comfort him so he can just rant about his situation.
Hamlet and Ophelia fight about whether or not Hamlet ever loved her as King Claudius and Polonius watch on to see if their theory about whether or not Hamlet was lovesick was correct.
Ophelia is distraught over her conversation with Hamlet. She asks the newly arrived Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to take good care of him as she cannot because Hamlet does not want to see her.
Ophelia sets out to find Hamlet to show him his love letters to her, but ends up eavesdropping on a conversation Hamlet and Horatio were having.
Ophelia lies awake at night, feeling bad for Hamlet. She finally understands his hatred towards his uncle, and decides to help him by acting crazy so Hamlet could enact his plan without anyone on his trail.
