Madame Loisel received a letter that invited her to a ball. Many of her friends were going, but she was sad. Monsieur Loisel wanted her to go because she is never going out and he wanted her to go to the great occasion.
She went out to find a dress for the ball. Her husband wanted her to look her best and be happy at the ball. So, he sent her out to go find a dress to wear. She was able to find a nice dress, but she became sad again because she did not have any jewelry.
Madame Loisel asked her friend if she could borrow some jewelry for the ball. Her friend allowed her and she picked a diamond necklace. She was now happy that she had a dress and jewelry to wear to the ball.
After the ball, Madame Loisel's husband brought clothes for her to change into. When she went to take off the necklace, it was gone. She had lost the necklace that she had borrowed. Her mind suddenly went into panic. They did everything they could to find it.
To find a replacement necklace, they went around to every jeweler asking if they had a necklace that was similar to the other. They found a jewler that would sell the necklace for thirty-six thousand francs. This was a hard decision because they did not have that kind of money. Although, they decided to buy it and pay him back.
Ten years later, Madame Loisel returned the necklace. She explained why it took so long. She told her friend that they had to buy a replacement and they have been paying it off for the past ten years. Her friend did not mind. The End.
