In this image the noble is deciding the fate of a man who tried to steal a loaf. The Noble of the land was the one that decided the consequences. His word was law. Soldier says: Baron, this man tried to steal a loaf of bread. what is his consequence. Noble says: Excused, but that will be a warning
In this scene we see the noble on a balcony looking over his land. Each noble had a certain amount of land and had to take a lot of care of it.
Here we see the wall around the fortress being protected and defended by his nights also called vassals. Each noble would choose 3 to 4 of his men to be his gallant knights. They swore an oath saying that they will protect his land and the noble swore one too saying that he would give them land and money.
The vassals would then give a part of this land to farmers or serfs so they could plant and grow crops.
The serfs would then give the crops to the vassals and the vassals would pay them.
And the vassals would give the crops and protection to the noble
