The character’s name Mrs. Delacroix in “The Lottery” is symbolic of the hypocritical practice of this Christian.
she grabs the biggest rock in the pile to hit Mrs.Hutchinson
Mr.Graves is the person who makes the slips and puts them in the box.He is also the person who throws the slips on the floor so the wind will take them. Mr.Graves has the word graves in it which reminds most people of a graveyard. The author is trying to show people that are reading the story that Mr.Graves is not a good person because he is the one who brings the box.
Mr.Summers who is the one hosting the lottery and is the one calling the names has nothing to do with the season summer. Unlike the season summer days are sunny positive and pretty days unlike Mr.Summers is not helpful and he doesn't seem to care about all the other people.
Mrs. Delacroix is a very “religious” women according to her name, when you translate her name it means “of the cross.” When it's time to throw the stones at the lottery winner Mrs. Delacroix gets one of the biggest stones. If she was so religious she wouldn't do such a thing. Jackson purposely gives that last name to show that christian people are also hypocritical.
