Storyboard Text

  • Oh Brian, I can't wait for that wedding cake!
  • Me too Melanie!
  • This wedding cake is making my stomach ache. What is going on inside- i can't feel bad on my wedding day!
  • We are going into Melanie's mouth to solve her stomach problem. The mouth is the opening to the digestive tract. Your cuspids, incisors, and bicuspids cut your food up. The molars grind it all up. The tongue moves food. Your saliva moistens your food.
  • I'm the digestive wizard-here to help solve Melanie learn about her digestive system!
  • pancreas
  • Liver
  • gallbladder
  • small intestine
  • large intestine
  • stomach
  • esophagus
  • This is where all the magic happens. From the throat, the bolus passes through the esophagus into the stomach. After food passes into the stomach, the cardiac sphincter closes up the esophagus
  • The lining of the stomach contains millions of microscopic gastric glands that release many substances into the stomach. Alternating contractions of the stomach’s three smooth muscle layers thoroughly churn and mix the swallowed food. A mixture called chyme is produced.
  • Chyme is pushed through the pyloric valve, it enters the duodenum. The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine. The chemical digestion and absorption of the food you eat occurs in the small intestine. The Pancreas produces enzymes that break down carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. Bile is pouch like organ called the gallbladder. The liver created the Bile. When chyme leaves the small intestine, it goes to the large intestine. primary function of the large intestine is to remove water from the undigested material that is left. Water is absorbed across the wall of the intestine, leaving behind the undigested materials.
  • I never really thought much of the digestive system-it really does a lot!
  • I think the source of your stomach ache was the fact that there was a pound of salt put in the cake instead of sugar!
  • The End
