Hi! I'm Mariana and I'm a time traveler. I'm going to take you back to the first 13 colonies. Let's Go!
This is early Jamestown. It is a colony in Virginia. This man is John Smith. He helped found the town and govern it. When he and many others got here, they had to use a charter to create the colony. The House of Burgesses plays a big part in controlling this colony.
This is Massachusetts Bay Colony. It is filled with Puritans. Roger Williams (far left) is a man who believed the Puritans were too strong. Anne Hutchinson (left) is a woman who didn't believe in the Puritan Church. John Winthrop (right) is a Puritan governor here. Jonathan Edwards (far right) is a Puritan minister at the Church. There is another place here in Massachusetts called Plymouth, where William Bradford, a pilgrim, participated as the second governor. The pilgrims were separatists.
Now i'm here to talk about the Southern Colonies. Some of them are royal colonies. Maryland is a colony down here and Cecil Calvert, Lord Baltimore is a place for Catholics. Nathaniel Bacon is a farmer in Virginia who rebelled. Georgia is one the of the Southern Colonies down here and its founder is James Oglethorpe.
This is Pennsylvania. This is William Penn and he is the founder of Pennsylvania. This village is filled with Quakers. They live here and are kind to the natives.
This is New York. It is a proprietary colony. John Peter Zenger was a journalists here who actually questioned the policies of the governor of New York. He did not have toleration for others opinions. He thought that opinions that were different from his were probably wrong. That was the 13 Colonies. I hoped you enjoyed the trip!
