Hello we are Mariela, Karla, and Alex and we are going to talk about balancing redox equations with oxidation number method. Canción de fondo: bang my head against the wall
MARIELA: For this topic you are going to need to hang on to your periodic table. (we show the periodic table on the video)
MARIELA: Step 1. Assign oxidation numbers to all the atoms in the equation Step 2. Identify which atoms are oxidised and which are reduced
KARLA: Step 3. Use a line to connect the atoms that undergo oxidation and those that undergo reduction. Step 4. Make the total increase in oxidation number equal to the total decrease in oxidation number by using appropriate coefficients.
ALEX: Step 5. Finally, check to be sure that the equation is balanced for both atoms and charge.
