  • Rainsford said in a straight tone, "Don't talk rot, Whitney. You're a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how the jaguar feels?," (Connell 60).
  • Rainsford heard a loud, staccato sound coming from the island, "Pistol shot," (Connell 63).
