Storyboard Text

  • T-Title
  • We should do this.
  • I agree!
  • P-Paraphrase
  • You can eat in the kitchen...alone.
  • You're not allowed to eat in here!
  • C-Connotation
  • I, too am American and I should be treated right!
  • I think the title has to do with someone agreeing with another person.
  • A-Attitude
  • He sings America. He is black. He eats in the kitchen. When company comes, he laughs, eats well, and grows strong. Tomorrow, he'll be at the table. When company comes, nobody'll dare say to him ''Eat in the kitchen'', then. Besides, they'll see how beautiful he is and be shamed. I, too am America.
  • S-Shift
  • ''I, too, am America'' seems like symbolism to me because it is saying how he is also American and should be treated equally.
  • T-Theme
  • I'm full of motivation!
  • This poem doesn't seem depressing, yet sad and I think this poem is full of confidence and inspiration.
  • In the poem, it starts out with a stanza with one line and throughout the poem it is larger, but towards the end, it is small again.
  • The theme to this poem is motivational and originally I thought it was about slavery and depression, but after I read it, it has a more less depressing theme.
