Conflict- Chacter vs. Nature
Chacter General Zaroff
The setting of the island that Rainsford swam to is a good example of foreshadowing that something is not right about the general that lives on the island and what the general does on the island.
This conflict plays an important role in the plot because Rainsford has problems with nature throughout the story for example: in the story the general talks about a place with quicksand called Death Swamp and when Rainsford comes to Death Swamp he gets stuck and can't get out then he comes to a solution and makes a trap to evade the general.
General Zaroff is a man that is very smart and knows how to hunt but when he tells Rainsford that he hunts men he starts to seem unstable and he also deserted himself on the island because the forest has obstacles that make it more interesting for him to hunt men.
