  • THE COLD WAR 1947
  • The Cold War was mostly between the United States and the Soviet Union.
  • VS.
  • It was not an actual war, but was 50 years that two countries were on the brink of warfare.
  • Both countries had a strong military and were competing to be the first and best.
  • Both forces were prepared to fight if needed.
  • The United States feared the spread of communism and created the Marshall Plan to try to prevent it.
  • NO MORE COMMUNISM!
  • Communism was a huge issue between the two.
  • The Soviets established a Communist bloc known as the Iron Curtain.
  • More tension rose when the U.S. joined the NATO alliance.
  • The Comecon was the Soviets economic stimulus package then used against the anti-communist message in the plan.
  • The war started to end when Mikhail Gorbachev took over as Soviet leader and introduced more liberal policies.
  • The two powers agreed to ramp back their nuclear arms race and the was ended for good when the Soviet Union fell apart and the communist group ended.
  • The Soviet Union finally separated on Dember 31, 1991.
