Martin Luther was a preist in 1517 that didn't support indulgence's. Indulgences were a scam by the church to gain money for people that had or were going to commit a sin, and if the sin were commited they would be forgiven.
Martin did not approve of the church or pope with their wealth nor power and decided to do something about the indulgences. His solution was to right a 95 theses which would name every wrong thing about indulgences.
When the priest had seen this they expelled him from the church.
