  • Slaves would be counted on a three-fifths basis for determining how much taxes the states would pay.
  • The ratification of the Constitution was an argument between the Federalists and some of the Anti-Federalists. Anti-Federalists didn't think that the Constitution would be a good thing and wanted to fix it and make it better for them and the people.
  • The Constitutional Convention was a meeting to discuss possible improvements to the Articles of Confederation.
  • The Virginia Plan was a proposal by Virginia delegates for a bicameral legislative branch. The plan was drafted by James Madison while he waited for a quorum to assemble at the Constitutional Convention of 1787.
  • Popular sovereignty or the sovereignty of the people's rule, is the principle that the authority of a state and its government is created and sustained by the consent of its people, through their elected representatives (Rule by the People), who are the source of all political power.
  • In U.S. history, federalists wanted a stronger national government and the ratification of the Constitution to help properly manage the debt and tensions following the American Revolution.
