After returning to France in the nineteenth century in the hopes of reestablishing his empire, Napoleon Bonaparte suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo.. He was then exiled by the other European rulers for the second, and last, time.
A class wide exam average of only a 60?!?! It seems that our class has met its Waterloo. This will destroy our grades!

The student is contemplating the complete failure of her class. Although they may have been doing well on their previous tests and assignments, their exam grades will be the deciding factors in their averages. When someone 'meets their Waterloo," they suffer a crushing, humiliating defeat.
