  • Eliza is introduced as a character and we learn that she works as a cook at the coffee house. In the exposition we also learn that Eliza is in Philadelphia during 1793.

  • Eliza comforts Mattie after their servant, Polly, dies. Eliza also takes care of Mother after she catches the fever.
  • It's going to be okay
  • Rising Action
  • Eliza works for the Free African Society to treat families with the yellow fever. Once Mattie arrives, she brings Nell with her and eventually the kids get sick, so they both have to take care of them.
  • Oh no! Not you guys!
  • Rising Action
  • In the climax of the story, the frost brings an end to the fever and the children are cured. This relieves major stress from Eliza.
  • It's the first frost!

  • In the falling action, Mattie asks Eliza if she wants to be partners in the ownership of the coffee house. Eventually Eliza agrees. After this happens, Mattie's Mother comes home.
  • Eliza, will you be my partner?

  • The coffee house is open again!
  • For the resolution of Fever 1793, Eliza ends up working at the coffee house and takes care of mother.
