Tituba is the slave of Reverend Parris. She was originally from the Barbados and is terrified of Parris who blames her for all misfortune. As a black female slave, Tituba represents the lowest rung of society.
Abbigial Williams, age 17, is the beautiful and crafty niece of Reverend Parris. Abbigails parents were killed by marauding native Americans while she was young. She was also John Procter's servant for a short time until Elizabeth found out about her affair with John. Abbigail is willing to do anything to protect herself.
Mr. Hale is the intelligent minister of Massachusetts who sees himself as a scientist and philosopher. Being very intellectual, he was an expert on witchcraft and spent most of his time in the "invisible world."
