The start of the french revolution
Louis XVI became the heir to the throne when his father died of tuberculosis in 1765. He was young and unprepared to be king.
In 1770, Louis (age 15) married Marie Antoinette (age 14).
Louis XV (grandfather to Louis XVI) died in 1774, leaving major debt and a throne to his grandchild, Louis XVI.
Louis had good intentions for his people but at the young age of 20 years old he was immature and lacked self-confidence.
In 1789 the third estate soon declared itself a "National Assembly". The tension between estates when there was a major crop failure and there was a shortage of flour.
