  • The King
  • Help Us!
  • Capture!
  • In a land called Mesopotamia, there lived a king named Gilgamesh. He was no ordinary person. In fact, he was two-thirds god and one-third human. His was very cruel to his people. They were scared of him. They were very scared of him.
  • The Duel
  • The people prayed to the sky god, Anu to help them. Anu created a wild man just as strong as Gilgamesh and let him run wild in the forest. His name was Enkidu.
  • Ishtar
  • Enkidu was spotted by a farmer at a water hole two days in a row.  He ran to tell King Gilgamesh about this sighting. Gilgamesh praised the farmer and gave him a beautiful woman named Shamhat to use as bait. The farmer put Shamhat in the forest to wait for Enkidu. Enkidu spotted Shamhat right away and fell in love with her right away.
  • Karma
  • Gilgamesh came to Enkidu and challenged him to a fight. They fought and they fought, both equal in strength, until finally, Gilgamesh won. Enkidu accepted Gilgamesh as stronger than he, and they became best friends. Since they both loved adventure, the two friends set off to the Cedar Forest, where they found the demon Humbaba, who guards the forest. They fought together and killed Humbaba.
  • The love goddess Ishtar saw Gilgamesh and how handsome he was. She wanted to be his wife. But Gilgamesh teased her. This angered Ishtar. So she sent down the bull of heaven to kill Gilgamesh. Enkidu and Gilgamesh once again teamed up to kill the bull of heaven.
  • Later, after Enkidu and Gilgamesh killed the bull of heaven, Enkidu got sick. It was a curse the gods laid upon him for killing the bull of heaven. As Enkidu lay on the ground, dying, he cursed his fate. When Enkidu died, Gilgamesh started searching for ways he could become immortal. He came upon a man that became immortal. The man said that becoming immortal was a gift from the gods. The man also said to become immortal, he had to leave a great civilization behind. He did. But he did not become immortal. Gilgamesh found trying to become immortal was a fools errand.
