Caused conflict and rivalries between countries trying to gain control of the areas full of the most resources and therefore profit for them. It also caused big problems with the natives to the land who were getting taken over, they had no control of their own homeland.
Imperialism One country´s domination over another country´s economic, political, and cultural institutions
Historical Globalization A period that is often identified as beginning in 1492, when Christopher Columbus made his first voyage to the Caribbean, and ending after WWII, when the US and the Soviet Union emerged as superpowers.
If globalization never had happened then my people wouldn't have been sold as slaves to Europeans for our resources.
If it weren't for mercantilism, my people would not have been sold to do work for the Europeans
Mercantilism A policy followed by European imperial powers from the 16th to the 19th century. In Colonies trade was strictly controlled to benefit the economy of the imperial power.
Capitalism An economic system that advocates free trade, competition, and choice as means of achieving prosperity
We traded our resources for goods from the Europeans, but we were also sold as slaves
Grand Exchange A trading process that began when Christopher Columbus brought seeds, fruit trees, and livestock to the Americas, where they cultivated and became staples. In return, native North American species were exported to Europe. This exchange expanded to include different countries and products around the world.
The grand exchange made me lose my culture and family. I was taken in as a slave and treated very poorly. I was not accustomed to these new changes and found it very hard to live.
