  • I, too, sing of America. I am an African American. They send me to eat in the kitchen When people come over. But I laugh, And I appreciate what I have. I grow stronger with it.
  • S-Shift
  • "I am the darker brother", and example of imagery, lets the reader know that the narrator is African American. This line, with the rest of the poem, informs the reader that the narrator could be slave. Alliteration in this poem like "company comes" adds rhythm. "I, too, am America", a metaphor, compares the narrator and America. This metaphor means that the narrator is also a member of American society.
  • T-Theme
  • Equal!
  • The attitude of this poem seems to be uplifting. I think this because the narrator is standing against racism.
