  • Favorite Sons
  • The Election of 1824
  • I am the least popular...
  • I am the most popular!
  • The Corrupt Bargain
  • I'll make you president if you make me your secretary of state.
  • Deal.
  • Each of the candidates in 1824 were called favorite sons. That meant that they were favored by their region.
  • Election of 1828
  • Republicans!
  • Democrats!
  • The problem with being a favorite son is you need to have the majority of the votes, which nobody had. Because of that, they took it to the house of representatives.
  • Andrew Jackson's Party
  • I am proud to be president... even though my house is trashed!
  • When the election went to the House of Representatives, Henry Clay was speaker of the house. So, he had the power to make John Quincy Adams president as long as when Adams is president, Henry Clay is his secretary of state. That was known as the corrupt bargain.
  • Jackson's Presidency
  • And now, whatever happens while I am in office, I am ready!
  • The Adams' presidency didn't go so well as people found out about the corrupt bargain. John Quincy Adams went for another term while Andrew Jackson ran for president again. The era of good feelings has ended after we split back into two parties. Andrew Jackson was a democrat and John Quincy Adams was a republican.
  • Andrew Jackson became president and hosted a party. The party got so out of hand, that the people trashed the white house.
  • Andrew Jackson became president and his vice president was John C. Calhoun. Later, they parted due to severe disagreements.
