Here the narrator is trying to take a nap in his chamber, on a dreary midnight in December, when he suddenly heard a tapping at his chamber door.
The narrator started to talking to whomever or whatever was outside his chamber door. The narrator got up to open the door when he opened the door nothing not even a soul was at the door. The only thing that was there was darkness. Then when he sat back down a louder tapping came from the window. He went to the window to see what it was. When he opened the window a raven flew in, and the raven perched on a bust of Pallas.
The narrator starts to talk to the bird as if it is a human. He asks the raven two questions. The first is "Is there - is there a balm Gilead?" The second is "Will I ever see Lenore again?" The raven replies with never more. This enraged him.
The raven still sitting on the bust. The narrator starts to yell at the raven, but the raven doesn't budge.
