Storyboard Text

  • The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst
  • tone
  • word choice
  • by Matt Ranallo  Pd 4
  • Imagery
  • The tone is horrific because the main character is recalling his brothers death and carrying the guilt around like it was his fault. It is displayed in the last paragraph when he holds his dead brothers head and in his lap and cries
  • Style
  • The ibis was found under neath a bleeding tree which means it has sapping coming off of it and it is red which resembles blood. Blood means death
  • Theme
  • When Doodle was born he was described as having a read and shriveled body just like an old man. This imagery showed that he was a disappointment even when he was born because he was sick at a young age.
  • The brother says that Doodles parents only gave him the name William Armstrong because it is meant to be on a grave stone this shows foreshadowing that Doodle is going to die.
  • The main theme of the scarlet ibis is pride because the brother was so embarrassed of his disabled brother that he was going to kill him in his sleep by smothering him with a pillow.
