In the first chapter we are introduced to our main characters. Scout who is 5 1/2 and a girl. Her older brother Jem who loves football is 11. They both are raised by their dad who didn't go to school and teaches them a lot. He doesn't like to talk to them like they're little kids. He treats them as adults. (pg. 3 - 5)
What's that shiny thing in that tree?
Scout finally starts school. It is not what she expects it to be. She never wants to go back. (pg. 15)
What is that shadow?
Burris Ewell is told to go him. He then says you can't tell me what to do. He calls her names and continues to fight her. Little Chuck little comes in and sticks up for her. He basically says if he doesn't leave her alone he will fight her. (pg. 26 - 27)
It's Mr. Radley! Run!
Scout finds a piece of gum in a tree. She then goes home, looks at it, then chews it. Jem realizes she found it and tells her to spit it out. This shows how he is growing up. (pg.33-34)
Atticus catches the boys trying to put the note in Boo Radley's window. He tells them to stop and leave him alone, his business is his. (pg.48)
The kids try and look into the window. Scout and Dill realize there is a shadow on the deck. They all run and Boo's brother shoots a shotgun shell into the air. (pg.53)
