There are three general types of rocks. Did you know that?
Yes I did! Sedimentary rocks are the most common, formed by sediments being deposited in strata, compacted together by the weight of others on top of them and cemented together.
Metamorphic rocks are formed when any rock is put under heat and pressure and changed into another rock.
And igneous rocks are formed by being melted and then cooled on the surface (extrusive) or under the earth (intrusive).
The Rock Cycle is an important diagram that shows that all rocks can become all other types of rocks!
