Storyboard Text

  • Hello, I am Fibonacci the Corgoise and I am going to tell you about DNA, and the processes it goes through to form a protein chain. I will also tell you about what happens when there is a mistake in the process.
  • Translation:

  • DNA
  • A gene cannot leave the nucleus in its DNA for so it must first become a RNA strand. The process that the DNA undergoes to become an RNA strand is called Transcription. The first step to transcription is unzipping the DNA. Then, an enzyme copys the gene by building a mRNA strand. Lastly, the DNA strand is zipped back up to its original form.
  • End result of Translation:
  • Transcription:
  • mRNA
  • In the process of transcription and translation, there are three different types of mistakes that can occur. The first mistake is insertion. This is when a pair of nitrogenous bases shouldn't be where they are. This can be easily confused with substation where a nitrongenous base is paired with one that it should be with. The thir type of mistake is deletion. This is when a pair of nitrogneous bases are removed, that belong there. When one of these mistakes happens, it can cause mutations with the organism like a mental illness or physical mutation. An example of a organism with a mutation is a tortoise with the head of a corgie.
  • Now that the gene is in its mRNA form, it can leave the nucleus and head to the ribosome.
  • End result of Transcription:
  • mRNA with attached Ribosome
  • Once the mRNA strand reaches the ribosome, the ribosome begins reading the strand three at a time. Amino acids are then attached in the correct order to form a protein. tRNA is what brings correct amino acids to the ribosome as it needs them.
  • Amino acid chain, also considered a protein
  • Now, the amino acid chain (protein) curls around itself into a specific shape. If the protein is not in the specific shape, it cannot carry out its function
