  • Jackson as President
  • I want more democratic systems that allow the ordinary citizen to participate in politics.
  • Right away sir.
  • Shaking up the Voting System
  • Finally, we have the right to vote.
  • Cast your votes for your next government leader!
  • The Spoils System
  • Hey! How did you get your position when you are just a regular guy
  • My friend Andrew Jackson nominated me into where I am today.
  • After Jackson won by a landslide in the election of 1828, his first mission as president was the spread of democracy and popular sovereignty.
  • Nominating Conventions
  • I think we should nominate Andrew Jackson as our candidate for president.
  • South Carolina Convention
  • Jackson improved all types of voting systems. Some of which lead to the ones we use today. He extended voting to poor land renting white males.
  • The Tariff Debate
  • Jackson does not side with us. He is a traitor to his state!
  • I will preserve this union at all costs. I do not serve the states, but the country!
  • Jackson wanted to extend government jobs to non elected citizens. The democrats believed that the people can handle any job. Yet Jackson only gave these jobs to his supporters and friends. Therefore it was known as the Spoils System.
  • Effects of the Jackson Presidency
  • My presidency was one of the few that benefited America. Although with its challenges, the people succeeded and were off to a good start for the future.
  • Nominating Conventions were where state delegates were allowed to select their party's presidential candidate. This system eventually led to the making of the voting system we have today.
  • Indeed.
  • In the year of 1828 Jackson's vice president, John Calhoun, led a movement in the South to ban a tariff, threatening that if they don't, the southern states would secede. Jackson was outraged as he was split between loyalty to his country and loyalty to his state. Yet he prevailed and lowered the tariff to keep the union together.
  • Jackson's legacy as president changed the future of America and presidents. He inspired many of the democratic systems we have today. Overall Andrew Jackson's presidency was one that changed america as a united nation for the good of itself.
