Depicted in the panel is a soul paying its fair into the underworld. Using a coin placed under the diseased tongue, Charon is able to be payed. Those who do not have a coin remain here unable to cross the Styx river, occasionally haunting those who did not leave them a coin to pay their toll.
This is a soul heading into Taratus. Guarding the the gate is Cerberus a three headed dog. Cerberus only lets soul through eating anyone alive trying to get in.
Here is Sisyphus and Tantalus. They have really upset the Gods. For upsetting the Gods they received crueler punishments then most. Sisyphus has to push a boulder up a mountain before it comes crashing down and he must restart. Tantalus is left chin deep in water with a never ending thirst unable to drink it.
Once past the gate you are put into holding before being judged by Minos, Rhadamanthys and Aeacus. They decide whether you have been good or bad. If you are good you can move to the Elysian Fields. However if you were neither good or bad you would be put back into the Field of Asphodel.
Here is the Elysian Field. In this field it is always holiday. There is music in the air as well. When granted access to the field you have the option to be reborn, most do not take this deal. The few that do repeat the process of judgment after another life. If you are granted Elysium three times you can go to a special section of Elysium the Isles of the Blest.
This is the Isles of the Blest. The best of all places for only the most worthy souls. After being judged worthy of Elysium three times this is the final stop. Showing that there is always something to work for in life. It also shows in order to have a good death be nice while you are still alive.
