  • So class, today we are going to talk about La Grande Paix de Montreal 
  • Yes Sydney
  • But we had french class with Ms. Jabot last period. This is social class
  • Yeah!!
  • That is just the name of the act. Now let's imagine that we were in 1701
  • Colonist from France decided to settle in North America and began to trade furs with First Nations. But because the people that were trading with the Europeans were enemies with the Nations who lived South, a war started between the Haudenonosaunee and the French with their allies that did not like the south Nations.  The fighting disrupted the fur trade and threatened the french settlement at Montreal
  • The treaty was signed with animals that were the names of the First nations clans. I.E : turtle clan, bear clan.
  • But after attending many peace talks and debating the First Nations and Europeans decided to sign a treaty that would represent being peaceful among all the nations.
