  • Surprise!!!
  • If we throw a surprise attack we'll catch them off guard and easily defeat them. 
  • On April 6th in the early dawn a Yankee patrol found the Confederates away a mile from camp. This was the start of the Battle of Shiloh. It was one of the earliest battles in the Civil War (war between people of the same country.)
  • Hooray!!! We won!!!
  • The Union army was still eating breakfast when they were caught off guard by the Confederacy.
  • The battle lasted 2 days. It was one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War. The North narrowly avoided defeat.
  • The Union won the Battle of Shiloh despite the surprise attack. This helped conquer Tennessee.
  • There were more than 23,000 casualties. More than 13,000 Union soldiers were wounded, killed, captured, or missing. There were 10,000 casualties from the Confederate army.
  • The Battle of Shiloh was named after a near by church. It was the turning point for the North. It ended the Confederacy's hopes to block the Union advance into Northern Mississippi.
