There were more than 23,000 casualties. More than 13,000 Union soldiers were wounded, killed, captured, or missing. There were 10,000 casualties from the Confederate army.
The Battle of Shiloh was named after a near by church. It was the turning point for the North. It ended the Confederacy's hopes to block the Union advance into Northern Mississippi.
