The story takes place from Stanley Yelnat's point of view. He's a boy living in a poor family that was cursed for over one hundred years because of his Great-Great Grandfather not keeping a promise he'd made to Madame Zeroni.
Holes by Louis Sachar
One day Stanley was walking down the street when a pair of shoes fell out of the sky & into his path. He picks them up, but little did he know they were a pair of famous missing shoes and soon officers accuse him of stealing them. Stanley goes to court and has the decision to either go to a camp or jail.
YOU - Boy, get in the car. You're coming with us.
Although Stanley was extremely upset by the news, he had no choice but to go to this camp or else he would be imprisoned!
At the camp, Stanley meets a boy named Zero. Zero is a quiet and lonely boy but Stanley helps him out and they become friends. Stanley even manages to bring out Zero's courage.
Many of the kids at camp talk about breaking out as well as the consequences. This gets Stanley to thinking and soon he asks Zero to join him in breaking out. The plan was I action when Stanley took Mr. Sir's truck but ends up crashing it, then they run across the barren land and away from the camp.
The main test or challenge in Holes was enduring the vigor of the work camp, the extreme heat and excessively digging holes. The enemies in the story are the counselors or the camp and the poisonous reptiles. The allies would be the fellow kids in Camp Green Lake.
