Where are the Radleys?
Boo is described as a terrifying, almost animal-like being. He is described as being 6 feet tall and having fangs. “'He goes out, all right, when it’s pitch dark. Miss Stephanie Crawford said she woke up in the middle of the night one time and saw him looking straight through the window at her... said his head was like a skull lookin‘ at her.'" (Lee 11)
These myths probably originated from speculation, considering the Radleys never left their home. "The Radleys, welcome anywhere in town, kept to themselves, a predilection unforgivable in Maycomb. They did not go to church, Maycomb’s principal recreation, but worshiped at home..." (Lee 7)
Boo Radley is inferred to be a benevolent person as he leaves gifts in trees and at one point covers the Finch siblings with a blanket. "Jem let me do the honors: I pulled out two small images carved in soap. 'I’ve never seen any these good... These are us,' [Jem] said." (Lee 59)
