Common Sense by: Thomas Paine
"but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil..."
Freedom from Britain!
King George III decided that while people were immigrating to the new colonies in America, they were going to need a new government. He decided that he along with other hierarchy in Britain would control the government in the colonies.
Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet, Common Sense, about getting control of the government from Britain. He felt that America needed independence and freedom from British control, since the British began to mistreat the colonists and they didn't gain from their rule.
The colonists were fed up with being misgoverned by the British so they finally took action by taking part in the American Revolution. The colonists sought out to take back control of their government from Britain and regain independence.
