Earlier that night, Hermia and Lysander were wandering in the woods. When it started getting darker, they decided to seek a place where to sleep. Although they argued a little bit about wether they should sleep close to each other, they was no yelling and fighting.
Shortly after they fell asleep, Puck is still looking for the athenian man described by Oberon, when he sees Lysander sleeping, with Hermia sleeping a little further. Thinking he found the man Oberon meant, he spills a couple of flower nectar drops on the young man's eyelids.
When Lysander awakes he first sees Helena, who found him sleeping. Helena reacts a bit akwardly when Lysander tells her he loves her from the bottom of his heart, in fact, she thinks he's joking and wonders what she did to deserve such a horribly cruel treatment from both Lysander and Demetrius.
