Henry VII Defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth. He was crowned King. He married Elizabeth of York to combine the houses of York and Lancaster.
His First son, Arthur died before him so the new heir was Henry VIII. Henry VIII married his brother's last wife, Catherine of Aragon.
Henry VII died and Henry VIII became king.
Catherine of Aragon had a girl and then got too old to have any more children and this is one of the reasons why Henry divorced her.
The catholic church - Catholicism was the religion at the time in England - would not allow divorce so Henry created his own church: The church of England. The king was in control of this church and therefore the religion in England. This meant he could allow divorce and get a new wife after Catherine of Aragon.
When Henry had a horrible accident in a jousting tournament, he changed. His health got worse and he went from being sporty and generous to being a cruel, overweight tyrant.
Henry loved one of the ladies of Catherine of Aragon, called Anne Boleyn.
