  • Science "Grab Bag" Fosters Hands-On Learning
  • Let's see what we have in our grab bag!
  • Here's the bag. What can we do with a spool of thread, paper clips, and all of thes other things?
  • The traditional formula of everyone sitting at desks in tidy rows with a read and  regurgitate session is an exercise in losing interest when science can be high interest area for our gifted friends.
  • Students are allowed to go to their personal, classroom reading spaces to use the classroom technology and choose one of the selected student-made You Tube videos as an intro to the energy unit. They will then join their exploration groups to pick an  energy "grab bag" to collaborate on an energy create activity.
  • Students can combine their individual interests and talents to use not-so-random grab bag objects to illustrate intro to energy. They can share with the class, unwittingly participate in an assessment activity, and possibly lay the groundwork for their own energy video. Missing from scene: all of the interesting "stuff" that makes for the science fun.
