Philip was murdered by Pausanias.
Alexanders first reaction: Order the executions of the Lyncestian brothers, Arrhabaeus, Hermonenes and Alexander from the house of Lyncestis. Alexander believed that they had a conspiracy to steal the throne from Alexander as they wanted it for themselves.
Alexander spared the third brother Alexander for he had recognized Alexander as King of Macedonia, and had exclaimed 'hail King of Macedonia', and because he was Antipater's son-in-law. This action was said to cast suspicion away from Olympias and Alexander who many thought had an involvement in Philips death.
Alexander then killed Amyntas, his first cousin, because he claimed to be next in line to the throne. Alexander also killed Attalus for he had called him 'an illegitimate heir to the Macedonian throne' (Diodorus)Lastly Cleopatra and her baby (Philips child) were brutally killed at the request of Olympias (Alexander was not involved in their murder).
Alexanders second reaction: Alexander held a fancy state funeral for his father, King Philip. This showed Macedonia people that Alexander was a loyal son. It shows that Alexander valued his public image.
Alexanders third reaction: The League of Corinth was set up in 338 BC by Philip to establish peace terms and his leadership over the Greeks. When Philip died Alexander claimed position as leader of the League of Corinth. Alexander then marched his armys to Greece to take control over the Greeks.
