Storyboard Text

  • Another major conflict was that Abigail tries to shift the focus away from herself by accusing others of witchcraft.
  • She is single minded, when she wants something she goes for it no matter what the cost is. If her first plan doesn't work she has a million back up plans. For example she wants John Proctor for herself so she has Tituba make her a potion to kill Goody Proctor, and when that didn't work, she plead to John to take her back, which did not work. So then she accused Elizabeth of witchcraft, which worked.
  • She has an affair with a married man, John Proctor.
  • Abigail is very opportunistic, if she sees an opportunity to save herself you can bet your life she will. To divert blame from herself and Betty, she accuses Tituba of making them do bad things.
  • With all the power that she has from being a victim of witchcraft, she accuses Elizabeth to get her out of her way to be with John.
  • Character Trait Part 3 She is rebellious, she does not try to suppress what she feels for Mr. Proctor, because he has a wife, but rather instead has an affair with him.
  • Character Trait Part 1 She is selfish-she wants to be with John Proctor &tries to kill his wife without a care that she is his wife!
  • Character Trait Part 2 She is a LIAR, she deceives people like Elizabeth and her uncle
  • She has also affected the lives of everyone else, because since the courts believe her very so, they will have a hard time of listening to the other people if they get accused by Abigail, since she has risen to so much power, no one will be able to stop her if she tries to accuse the whole town!
  • One night, stuck by a pin, Abigail accuses Elizabeth Proctor of making a type of voodoo doll and sticking it with a needle/pin to hurt her. And later there was a warrant issued for the arrest of Elizabeth.
  • The way in which she impacted the lives of the Proctors shows when ELizabeth tells John that he has to go into town and tell the people of the court that Abigail is lying and his hesitance leads to an argument, giving Mrs Proctor more lack of trust towards John.
  • "And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know that I can do it." (20) This shows that she is willing to do anything in the means of her survival, because that is just whom she is.
  • Abigail says,"It's she put me out, you cannot pretend it were you. I saw your face when she out me out, and you loved me then and you do now!" (22) This is a major conflict in the play, because she won't let go of John even though she well knows he is married and loves Goody.
  • Abigail convinced Hale that Tituba makes her do bad things, so Hale told Tituba,"You will free her from it now! When did you compact with the Devil?"The scene where Abigail falsely accused Tituba of witchcraft shows the foundation for the very twisted system of justice in Salem where anyone innocent or not can be accused and convicted by just anyone.
