After the ruler of the expansion of Songhai, Sunni Ali died his son Sunni Baru took over and he was not a Muslim so the people of Songhai thought he would make the empire worse so they rebelled against him and defeated him. The leader Askia made Songhai grow. He supported education and learning. Timbuktu also flourished for its schools. Askia also had laws that were similar to other Muslim nations.
