  • OK
  • Nelson Mandela was elected president on May 9, 1994 to be President of South Africa. During his presidency he did many important things. One, and probably the most well known was that he fully ended apartheid in South Africa. Now you may of thought that south Africa already got rid of aparthied and that is how Nelson Mandela got elected but that is not so because even though they had gotten rid of all the big things like the right to vote the little things still lingered in the shadows like separated bathrooms. During his presidence he did more than just end apartheid. Another thing that he did was he over saw the enactment of a new democratic constitution for South Africa. During his presidency he also resigned from the ANC transferring his leadership to Thabo Mbeki.
  • The Mandela Rhodes foundation is a scholarship program for South African college students. It was made to improve South Africa future and create a better life for the people of South Africa. This was A partnership between Cecil Rhodes and Nelson Mandela. The first students accepted for the scholarship met with Nelson Mandela.
  • Only a few of the students who got the scholarship actually met Mandela. He died soon he created the foundation.
