Eleanor is having a rough time at school. People have bullied her every day and girls from her gym class have put her clothes in the toilet. She can't change her clothes and as a result is sent home from school.
Eleanor goes to visit Park the following day. They talked about what happened to Eleanor and decided to go on a date on the town to cheer Eleanor up.
While they're out, they have more time to talk. Park asks Eleanor about the vulgar things always written on her books and belongings, and she finally gets a chance to explain that she doesn't write them. They get to know each other better, and have a great date.
Eleanor gets home late and is worried about the wrath of Richie, but all of the lights are off and she's able to get in without incident. She gets to her room and realizes all of her belongings have been trashed and messages have been strewn on her walls, in the same handwriting as those on her textbooks. She realizes it is Richie's writing.
Eleanor realizes she is not safe there anymore, and must find a way to tell Park that she can't stay there, and find a new place to live.
At school, Eleanor tries to tell Park about her situation. He volunteers to help her, hoping that she'll decide to stay with him and not go live with her uncle far away from Omaha.
