After a successful hunt, Jack impaled a sow's head on a stick and propped it in the forest, as an offering to the beast. Simon stumbled upon the Lord of the Flies and, in a delusional conversation with the severed head, understood that there was no material beast, only the beast that exists inside of every human being.
Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!
In the midst of a chaotic dance, that even Ralph, Piggy and Samneric have Joined, Simon emerges from the shadows to tell all of his new understanding of the beast. Seeing the shrouded figure, the boys jump on him and kill him with their bare hands and teeth.
After starting his own tribe, Jack realizes he doesn't have the means to start a fire. He plans a raid of the shelters late at night and steals Piggy's glasses for himself.
He took my glasses!
Ralph's group travels to Castle rock to try to talk some sense into Jack. In the battle that ensues, Roger rolls a boulder down the mountain, killing Piggy with the impact and crushing the conch shell; symbolizing the downfall of civilization.
shh... You're sure he's in there?
While on the run from Jack's group, Ralph finds a good hiding place in the forest. In hopes of coaxing him out of hiding, Jack and the others set the forest on fire.
Ralph is forced out of the burning forest and onto the beach. He collapses in exhaustion, and is bewildered to see a naval officer standing over him. He is safe, but thinking of what has happened on the island makes him weep, and the other boys soon begin to sob too.
