The voyagers stumbled upon Mocambique. They were pleased with the amount of goods the natives were able to show them. The interactions with the natives and the men continue to improve the more ports they go to. Although there was some sort of miscommunication and the ships actually fired at the natives as they were leaving.
Overall the way Da Gama treated the locals at every time he stopped was incredibly important in how Africa was eventually treated. This distrust and mistreatment has bled into so many parts of history and it all started in the 1400s. The crew had more poor than positive experiences and it was due to a lack of understanding one anothers culture. This is incredibly relevant in todays society to remember to try to understand one another culture before judging.
Due to various horrible interactions with natives Da Gama begged the King of Malindi to allow the men to come in peace. The two representatives of the King came back and said that the King would be more than happy to welcome them into his kingdom and anything they needed was theirs to take. Da Gama even surrendered his moorish prisoners to the King.
The men came to the city of Calecut and were greeted warmly upon arrival. The messengers of the King told them that this land was very wealthy and would make them rich. Overall this was good interaction with locals that did not end in violence.
