Storyboard Text

  • The Persians wanted to make Greece part of the Persian Empire. They wanted their trade routes and good water to sail on. Before they could get to Greece they met a greek colony that wouldn't let them through. Then they went to war. The Persians won some early victories. However, a few Greek city-states combined forces. They beat the Persian army at the battle of Marathon.

  • The Greeks met the Persians in a narrow canyon at the Thermopylae battle. The Persians had too many people to fit in the narrow space. A Greek soldier told the Persians how to circle behind the Greeks and trap them. The Greeks got away but 300 stayed to fight. They lasted 24 hours.
  • Yes! Yea! Yeah!
  • In 480 BCE, the Greeks tricked the Persian fleet into a narrow channel between the Greek island of Salamis. The Greeks chose this area because they knew that the Persians ships were too big for the canal. The greeks ship had a piece of wood on the front to slice the other ships in half.
  • The Greeks sent some men to Turkey to settle there as greeks. But they still traded. They gave the men things like gold, bags of seeds, and shovels. The Greeks were doing pretty good there.
  • When the Greeks Beat the Persians, a soldier ran all the way from the war to Greece to tell about the victory. He yelled "We won the war" and " nike nike."
  • We won the war! Nike Nike!
  • The Greeks used a boat called The Ships of Antiquity. The Ships of Antiquity was handy because of the wood that's on the front, because of the sail making the boat go fast and the people rowing the boat made it go fast. When the wood hit another boat, the other boat would slice in half.
