End the war!
The United Nations called for Soviet withdrawal. Gorbachev, the Soviet leader, said he wanted to end the war in Afghanistan, so he sent more troops. The US began supplying the mujahideen with more advanced weapons.
We're going home.
The DRA, USSR, and the US signed peace treaties. The USSR began pulling troops. Throughout this, more than 5 million Afghans fled to Iran and Pakistan. On February 15, 1989, the USSR announced the departure of the final troops. The Civil War still continued until 1992, when the mujahideens took victory. More than 13 thousand Soviet troops and 1 million Afghans were killed.
