Old Yeller By: Fred Gipson Mia Kelley
Exposition: In Texas during the 1860's Travis is left in charge of all of the work that needs to be done while Papa is away. He has to also watch after Mama and Little Arliss. In the dog run Travis finds a surprise visitor stealing meat, Old Yeller.
Rising Action: Old Yeller saves Little Arliss from the she bear after she tries attacking Little Arliss. Travis never really liked or appreciated Old Yeller. He tried everything he could to get rid of the dog. After Old Yeller saved Little Arliss from the mama bear Travis started to appreciate Old Yeller more. He realized how important Little Arliss was to him and how much Old Yeller could actually help.
Climax: Hydrophobia is being spread around and Old Yeller is attacked by a mad wolf. Travis and his Mama couldn't risk letting Old Yeller live just incase the hydrophobia was spread to him. Travis wound up having to shoot Old Yeller.
Falling Action: Papa arrives back home with a horse and some money. Papa and Travis have a discussion about how you have to focus on the good parts in life, not the bad ones.
Resolution: Travis begins to appreciate life again after he realizes that the speckled pup is just like Old Yeller. Mama catches the pup stealing cornbread and Travis couldn't help but laugh, it just reminded him of Old Yeller. Travis plans to take the pup and Little Arliss squirrel hunting the next day. Overall, in the end Travis grows older and wiser.
