c'mon brother we have to get back to mother by now
Amari calls to her playful brother so they can return to their busy village to help their mother with chores.
Amari and her brother returned to a terrible sight. All the elders and children were killed by pale skins that were unfamiliar to her. Fire was everywhere in her village burning houses to the ground.
Amari and some of the survivors from her village were chained up in groups of 4 and walked for days until they got to a shore overlooking the ocean. They saw a strange boat in the water.
Don't worry children here you will be safe. And best of all free.
Amari and her people were delivered on the ship. They were cleaned, fed and rushed to the center of a town where they were auctioned off one by one. Amari was sold to a wealthy man and his son.
They had a large plantation full of slaves. Amari made some friends, specifically an indentured servant girl named polly. They both dreamed of escaping one day.
An older slave told them to escape you must not go north, they will look for you there, you must go south to mexico. They traveled for months until they reached Fort Mosso in Mexico.
