Come; and follow me.
In the Middle East, people started following Jesus.
This caused a lot of conflict with the church's clergy.
The conflict was about the "idols" in the church. Some believed that they were against the Christian belief. Others thought that they were useful because people couldn't read during this time.
Then, in 726, Emperor Leo ordered the destruction of all idols. This was called the "Iconoclast Movement". Many of the clergy found different art like mosaics to replace the idols.
Byzantine emperor Justinian I wanted to restore original Roman Empire, and replace what Emperor Leo had done. So Justinian I sent troops led by Belisarius.
Many people were upset with what Justinian I had done, so they had started a revolt. This was known as the Nika Revolt. Justinian I and his wife Theodora had to be careful when going through town.
