Erik the Red
Erik the Red and his son Thorstein the Unlucky attempted another trip but were unsuccessful.
During his banishment he was travelling looking for new lands and discovered Greenland.
Erik died during the winter of 1003-1004 in Greenland of a terminal illness (with a a sword in his hand). Erik the Red was a hot-tempered man who often found himself in trouble. Despite this, he managed to turn his troubles into opportunity. Erik the Red is honored for his discovery and settlement of Greenland.
Things were going well for while but then the settlers experienced very cold weather and many returned to Iceland or died.
Erik's son Lief was the first one to bring Christianity to Greenland in 998, but Erik remained true to his pagan gods.
