It’s a beautiful Monday morning in a quiet residential area of Brooklyn. Professional Boxer Michael Moyer is happy because last night he just finished unpacking all of the boxes from his recent move to the area. He’s excited to get back into boxing training and music school today. Michael loves the cultural diversity he sees every day while living in Brooklyn. When he rides the bus to the gym he encounters so many different ethnicities! Michael loves to listen to the languages that each of these different people speak especially since he speaks a few foreign languages himself. There is a large Egyptian population in the area so he often listens to conversations in Arabic.
Michael rides the bus to the gym to run on the treadmill in preparation for his fight in one month. After he runs several miles on the treadmill to warm up he works with Danny and Eric to develop his boxing skills. Danny and Eric are previous world champions in boxing and they have coached Michael in his last six fights which he has won by TKO.
After his training session with Danny and Eric finishes Michael walks down the street to take music lessons from Fabiana. Fabiana is teaching him how to read music so that he can learn to play the piano and the cello. Michael is quite a unique athlete with many varied interests. He breaks the stereotype that many people have regarding professional boxers. Athletes like Michael are great for the community and that is why this weeks spotlight has been on him.
